Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2019 Wave 2
Exciting new functionality
The release of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2019 Wave 2 is just around the corner. Everyone is excited about the new features that are coming. You can see an overview on the Business Central Road Map.
While not all features are interesting or useful for all users, a lot will make life of all users easier. For some others, it depends on the functionality you are using in Business Central. A few things will definitely make a huge impact on all users. Going forward, you can resize columns easily. You have new shortcuts available. You can personalize your experience better to your liking. And there are a lot of performance improvements coming.
What does Business Central 2019 Wave 2 mean for published apps?
Microsoft is only releasing “breaking changes” with their major updates in the Spring and Fall of each year. “Breaking changes” are changes that can break any apps published already. Well, this time, it is definitely a release that breaks apps. Almost all currently published apps will break and have to be revamped. And I am certain that most app providers (ISVs) are working on that. I am also sure that some partners are already working on updating in tenant apps specific for individual customers.
If the apps you are using are not updated, you will not be upgraded to the next release. You then can’t take advantage of all these new features. Once the published apps in a tenant are all compatible, the tenant will be slotted for upgrade.
NAV-X is ready
To ensure that our customers are not being delayed in the upgrade process, we are working hard on making our apps compatible with Business Central 2019 Wave 2 and can say that we will have all our apps submitted for validation before the release of new October release. As soon as the apps are approved by the validation team, they will be available for the October upgrade.
We don’t only have all our apps ready for Business Central 2019 Wave 2 in the cloud, but also on premise. Since there are a lot of changes in the back end, customers will opt to stay on the 2019 Wave 1 (Spring Release). The main change is that you will not have C/AL available anymore. If you are still using C/AL modifications, you cannot upgrade easily. We will be providing a version of our apps for the Spring release and will keep this version for an extended period of time. We will make the determination, if we have to retrofit any new functionality in the 2019 Wave 1 release or if we only maintain the new functionality for the latest version of Business Central based on customer needs and what type of changes those are.
What’s next?
Wait for the release of Business Central 2019 Wave 2 and rest assured that you will have all your NAV-X apps ready and available. If you have any questions, please contact us.
